| Express Pattern (Buffalo Grove, IL, 847-215-0001), a leader in producing high quality stereolithography models, and QuickCast and ThermoJet investment casting patterns, was asked by Hitchiner Manufacturing (Milford, NH) to assist with a challenging project. Hitchiner had proposed a significant redesign of an existing component to a potential customer. The part under consideration was a complex weldment of sheet metal and machined components. Hitchiner proposed that the component instead be investment cast in two pieces and laser welded together. Express Pattern split the provided UG solid model and built a sample part of one component. Hitchiner used the ThermoJet component to demonstrate to the customer that necessary detail can be achieved with the ThermoJet wax printer. The sample pattern was used by Hitchiner as part of their presentation to their customer, who was so impressed, they agreed to go with this new approach. Express Pattern is currently building prototype wax pattern injection dies to satisfy the higher quantity initial customer trials at Hitchiner. |
